Monday 8th of May 1865 I Patrick J. Quirk, left
Springfield Massachusetts for Montana Teritory, A brief account
of incidents noticed along the way Left Springfield in the
noon train for Hartford Left Hartford at 3.30 in the Granite
State for New York. The scenery along the ["said" stricken] river is so well
known that it would be out of place for me to minute it
Still without favouring any place in particular ["in particular" inserted above line] I will say that there is some
splendid scenery along the way I arrived in N. York Tuesday
morning at 7 A.M. the day was very disagreeable on account
of the way it rained the first drive I made was to the Office
of the Eria R. R. had my baggage checked & found out that
the cars would not leave untill 5.30 & 6.30 The next move was
to an Umberella Store bought one for $1.00 bye the way that
was a $1.00 thrown to the wind for the wind broke it inside
of one hour The next important move made was to breakfast
After that I went to 22 Duane St. and had an interview
with the great revolutionist Colonel John OMahoney he was
buisy adressing copys of the N. Y. Herald of the 5th May ["May" inserted above line; "April" also inserted above line but stricken] to the remote
adresses of the Circles of the F. B. After reading my introductory
letter he received me with the warm confidence of a friend
he then endorsed my letter and gave me 2 Constitutions and
about 3 dozen copys of the said Herald to distribute among
the Westren Irishmen which I have done I then took my
leave of the zealous patriot and proceeded to the Office of the
Irish American where I had a little buisiness to transact then
I proceeded to a variety store where I bought Sundry needful
articles for travelling equipment In the afternoon I visited
Barnums Museum where my attension was engaged by the
featherd race quadruped kind & mineral curiositys In
good season I in company with my friend Jesse Williams
repaired to the ferry boat of the Eria R. R. which crosses from
N. York to New Jersey we road in the 6.30 train it stopped
at Turners at hour ["hour" inserted above line] 9.10 M ["M" inserted above line] to have supper [additional "p" added above "super"] after supper [additional "p" added above "super"] I went to sleep
for the night Next Morning was the 10th The first place I
