Saline Co Mo Nov 2nd/[1856]
Dear Brother
I drop you a
few lines in reply to yours dated
Oct 19th. I was truly glad to hear that
you are all well. I dont desire any
better health than I have at this
time I weigh more at this time than
I ever did at this season of the year
before. All the farmers are through
with their seeding long a go & the wheat
has hid the ground completely I expect
to get the last of the hemp spread
to-morrow & then I want to take all
hands to the woods & make rails enough
to fence in 500 Acr more of prairie &
timber I wanted to make rails & repair
all of the old fence but he wont agree
to it He has more land under
fence now than he has force to work
& I can jump over more than half
of the fence myself with out any
trouble. Oct has been quite a wet
month here & the ground has been
froze pretty smart twice in Oct. I seen
some ice here in Sept
