Company B 1st Missouri Cavalry C.S.A.
Company B 1st Mo Cavalry Was largely composed
["Cop" stricken] of Companies C G W Law Captn and Co D W P Gilbert Captn
of Maj. Mitchels Battallion ["Maj." written above line] Mo State Guard This Battallion
was organized in Callaway County Mo. and mostly of
Callaway boys. with a goodly number from Montgomery
County and a few Scattering from other Counties
Company B was organized at Sac River Mo. and
and mustered into the Confederate States Army By Col
Riggin Dec 11 1861.
George W Law was elected Captain - was promoted to
Major then Lieutenant Col of the Regiment - Lost an
arm at Big Black river near Vicksburg Miss Spring of 1863
Served throug the war - returned home. Was Elected Sheriff
of Callaway Count term 1872-[1873] and was killed by a mob
while defending a prisoner - the noted horsethief Kestler.
