Lexington, Va:
23 June 1866
Mrs Emma S. Ringo
Your letter of the 10th Inst:
which was directed to Charlottesville,
has just reached me.
In answer to your question,
as to "what point in the South
would a few thousand dollars
do the most good", I have
to state that as far as my
knowledge extends, there is more
distress in the Cities than in
the Country; therefore whatever
State you may select, upon
which to bestow your bounty,
it will be better to send it to
some of the towns, as Richmond,
Charleston, Savannah &c.
