[paper creased, folded over on itself]
Boonville July 12 12 o'clock ["12 o'clock" inserted above line]/1846
Miss Sarah E. Harrison,
Dear Sis
I have ben so very lonesome since you left
that I hardly know what to do with myself ["with myself" inserted above line] but as I expect to go to St
Louis shortly I am somewhat cheerful, but I do not think
that I could possibly be cheerful without having some of
you here
We heard that you all got to Glasgow in safety,
from ["from" written above stricken "by"] the boat but as to getting home in safety we heard nothing
of. We are all very well ["to" stricken] except Sis who has been sick from
eating green apples but I do not think she is very much so
Sis you must not expect a very good letter from
me as I am one of the poorest of the poor letter writers but
I will do my best. You must not lose that piece of paper
that I gave you before you started for if you do I shall
not think hard of it. Tell Fanny Giddings (the first
time you see her) that I have lost that piece of hair that
she gave me but tell her that it was not so much my
fault as of cousin Carry Maye's for I put it in my
Lallah Rooke [Lalla Rookh] where I thought that it would be safe but
she was reading in it and let it fall out but I have
the paper yet all except that piece I gave to you
I have not seen the person I wished to see
yet and I was badly disappointed ["this m" stricken] at morn
service to day ["to day" inserted above line] at not seeing her but I hope to see her tomorrow
if she comes in to say her French lessons but never-
the less accidents will happen in the best of families
Sis as this letter may reach you pretty soon I
will tell you that Pa expects to go ["go" written above stricken "come"] up on the Sun
with Lucinda Bouldin. Tilitha and Susan Ann Embry
went home last Saturday morning and Flora McDaniel
and, Virginia Thompson the evening of the same day but
