| Synopsis | William E. Blackwell as born on January 12, 1934. He served in the Missouri House of Representatives for three terms, from 1970 to 1977, after which time he notably declined further elected office according to his own philosophy of self-imposed term limits. And although Mr. Blackwell ran and served as a Democrat, his reflections on party affiliation and public service might be noted in the following transcript. Mr. Blackwell brought a background in farming, insurance, and ten years service in the U.S. Air Force to the Missouri House. For his most recent biographic entry, see the Official Manual of the State of Missouri, 1975-1976.<br>Mr. Blackwell graciously accommodated us for this interview by visiting our archives in Columbia, Missouri. The interview was held in the conference room of the Western Historical Manuscript Collection. A sociable and friendly man, Mr. Blackwell spent time visiting with various members of the staff before and following the interview. The oral history session itself was preceded by a few moments of getting acquainted, during which time we first discussed former Secretary of State James C. Kirkpatrick. Mr. Blackwell reiterated his views on Mr. Kirkpatrick later in the taped interview. |
