About this collection

Memphis Reveille banner

The Memphis Reveille was first published in September 9, 1865 as a weekly Saturday newspaper and continued publishing until 1969 when it became the Memphis Democrat.  The publishers, L. Shields and G. A. Henry moved to Memphis to start a “country paper.  The Reveille will be devoted to the Agricultural, Commercial, Educational, and Local interests of Scotland county and North-Eastern Missouri, and to the general diffusion of news and useful information.  We are no politicians-but we love our country!  And although we do not design publishing a political paper, for the benefit of those who desire to know where we stand upon the political questions of the day, we simply remark that we are for the Union, now and forever, on and inseparable.”
