About this collection

Shelbina Democrat banner

The Shelbina Democrat began publishing in 1869 as “a readable family paper, especially devoted to the interest of Shelby county and part of Monroe lying adjacent.” Publishers reported on agricultural and manufacturing interest of the community while conservatively reporting on politics. The editors though “will not be the blind subject of any party, but criticize freely, all public men and public acts; and be in all things an independent Journal.”
