About this collection

Washington Citizen maskhead

The Washington Citizen presented its inaugural issue on August 25, 1905.  The paper ran for almost 80 years.  It was published weekly on Fridays and was republican in politics.  The goal of the paper was to be a real newsy paper and not focus on individual animosities.  “The newspaper will always be absolutely independent in its expression of opinion concerning things of local interest to the people of Franklin County.  It will not concern itself with individuals so much as with general principles.”
