The Boone County Atlas of 1875 contained this excellent drawing of
James S. Rollins's residence. The roof style of the structure, however,
was not correct.

INTRODUCTION
The following article is a reminiscent account of La Grange, the
famous Boone County home of James S. Rollins. It was written by
Rollins's granddaughter, Ruth Rollins Westfall, who lived at the
house during her childhood.
Born in Richmond, Kentucky, April 19, 1812, James Sidney
Rollins received his education in the Richmond Academy,
Washington College in Pennsylvania, the University of Indiana and
the Transylvania, Kentucky, Law School. After graduation in 1834,
he practiced law in Columbia, Missouri, and published the Columbia
Patriot newspaper.
As a member of the Whig and later Republican parties, Rollins
served several terms in the Missouri House of Representatives and
Senate, beginning in 1838. He was a member of Congress in 1860 and
