Fred E. (Gene) Copeland was born on June 12, 1924. As a Democrat he served in the Missouri House of Representatives for 38 consecutive years, first elected in 1960. The following session contains some information pertaining to Mr. Copeland's legislative career (particularly toward the latter part of the transcript), but the primary focus and intent of the session was to discuss the historic political career of J.V. Conran. Mr. Copeland's wife, Ginnie Lee, offers some additional information pertaining to Southeast Missouri and Mr. Copeland's political career.
